Egg and nest art
Last week, we made a nest and egg project. Students tore paper ( to help strengthen those fine motor muscles) to make a nest. Then they colored eggs and birds to fill in the nest. To finish off the project, they wrote an addition sentence (birds + eggs = how many birds will there be).
Mystery Reader
Just remember, you can schedule a chance to be mystery reader any day! It is a fun and easy way to come into your child's classroom. Just this past week, we had an older sybling read to the class!!
Book: Hattie and the Fox
Measurement
Students have learned about various forms of measurement, such as length, capacity, and weight. We had a lot of fun with hands on explorations. In these photos, students were given the challenge to find how many cubes were the same weight as a toy car. They did a great job working together in small groups.

Can you tell by these photos which students liked green eggs and ham??
To celebrate the author Dr. Seuss, we did several fun seuss-related activities in the classroom. The kids had fun cutting up ham and cracking open eggs. :-)

Measurement Math Unit
As an extension to our new math measurement unit, we traced our shoes today. We used a variety of manipulatives to measure the length of our shoes today. We will use these to create our own Foot Book this week. We will use the book to record our measurement data.
Science experiment
In our science lesson today, we explored with footprints. We used small play characters to create footprints in baking soda. Then we kept the figures in one spot to add colored vinegar. The students loved watching the reaction and taking turns to add colors. We finished the experiment by removing the toys to see the footprints they left in the mixture.
The children did a great job working together in a small group setting. This was a great extension from Dr. Seuss' The Foot Book. We are also completing math measurement activities with The Foot Book.

Close Read Lesson
In small group this week, we did a story called "My School." We read the story for three days this week. We found vocabulary words, looked for context clues, answered comprehension questions, made connections to our own school, and drew a map relating to the story.

Dr. Seuss' A, B, C
This week and next week we are focusing on the many works of Dr. Seuss. We have been doing a variety of writing activities to go with texts read in class. Today, we read Dr. Seuss' A, B, C. Then the students were able to select a letter, practice writing it in upper and lower case. Then they filled in the middle space with pictures and words that began with that letter sound.
